The Famished Road

Oh I'm madly in love with this book and the writer and Africa and Azaro and with every charecter in the book.Set in a Nigerian village, this is the first in a trilogy of novels which tell the story of Azaro, a spirit child. Azaro's narrative is continued in Songs of Enchantment (1993) and Infinite Riches (1998).His writing takes you away in another world.

Ben Okri won the Booker prize for this novel in 1991.

Wise & Otherwise by Sudha Murty

This is a beautiful compilation of her write ups. Through this book you really understand the kind of person Sudha Murthy is and feel all is not wrong with the world

Some stories/articles make me uneasy in my cozy room, some make me cry. And some fill me with hope of light and the determination to light a candle, start somewhere.

To Kill a Mockingbird

I first read this book when I was in college and have re-read it many times since. And have loved it more everytime.

A book about racial and cultural discrimination, told through the eyes of Scout, a six year old girl. Her co-conspirators are her brother Jem and friend Dill.

Atticus is the kind of guy you have to admire for being an unorthodox dad and a honest lawyer.

This coming-of-age book is my all time favourite.

The best of Roald Dahl

His stories seem complete. There is perfect balance in the action and reaction, the cause and effect. Nowhere you feel that something has been unfair, just for the sake of making you upset or happy. All this with an unimaginable twist in the end.

The characters behave weirdly. I mean wot do you say about a wife who let’s her husband die in the house and goes for a trip abrod. If you hear it out of context it seems weird but while reading the story I somehow actually supported the wife!

As if he can control your mind and make you feel the way he wants to; many times sinister & wily.
But then isn’t that what a great writer would do.
